Keep well in the cold weather

The Met Office has warned of more cold weather this week with a 90 per cent chance of icy conditions.

The advice from health experts with the UK Health Security Agency is clear - look after yourself and others during the cold weather.

Being cold can have a serious impact on your health. If you have an underlying medical condition, you could be at greater risk. The cold can also make the symptoms of infectious illnesses, such as COVID, more severe.

You should heat your home to a temperature that is comfortable for you. If you cannot heat the whole house, wear layers and focus on the rooms you use the most, such as the living room and bedroom.

Make sure you take advantage of your COVID-19 and flu vaccinations and don't delay in seeking treatment from your local pharmacy for minor ailments such as colds and a sore throat.

If bad weather is forecast, make sure you have all the medication you need in advance.

Hounslow Council and its partners have opened a network of warm spaces across the borough for people who are struggling to heat their homes. You will find a warm welcome and can stay as long as you would like.
