Drop the pressure for World Hypertension Day

World Hypertension Day takes place on Wednesday, 17 May and it’s a chance for everyone to take control of their blood pressure.

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, can often have no symptoms, but if left unchecked can lead to serious conditions such as heart disease, strokes and vascular dementia.

The NHS estimates that one in four adults in the UK will have high blood pressure, many without realising it.

High blood pressure can be treated through some medications and lifestyle changes. Eating a healthy diet, reducing your alcohol intake, losing weight and being active are great ways of helping to manage your blood pressure. Hounslow’s health and wellbeing service, Healthy Hounslow can help with these. You can also get your blood pressure checked at GP surgeries and pharmacies.

For World Hypertension Day, the Council’s Health Outreach Team will be on Hounslow High Street (outside Trinity Church) to hand out information, from 10am to 4.30pm. Free blood pressure checks will be available from 11am to 12.30pm.
