Know your risks for Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week
More than 13 million people in the UK are at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
High-risk groups include people who are overweight, people aged over 25 from South Asian, Black African and Black Caribbean backgrounds, white men over 40 and women who have had gestational diabetes.
The good news is that for many, there are steps that many people can take that will prevent them from developing the condition.
These revolve around lifestyle changes such as losing weight, being more active and eating well.
The national campaign is a partnership between the NHS and Diabetes UK. The partners have produced an online Know Your Risk tool, which will tell how at-risk you are of developing type 2 diabetes in a few minutes.
You can visit the Know Your Risk tool here.
Many pharmacies and GP surgeries offer diabetes checks and if you are concerned about the condition, it is a good idea to discuss it with your doctor.
Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust run Hounslow’s Diabetes services.
