Make a date for Diabetes Week

Diabetes Week runs from June 12 to 18 and the national campaign is urging everyone to find out more about the condition.

In Hounslow, it is estimated that more than 24,000 people are living with diabetes. While a further 31,000 are at risk of developing the condition.

If you’re African-Caribbean, Black African, South Asian and over 25 or if you’re white and over 40, you could be at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes can lead to serious health complications, including heart disease, stroke, blindness, and kidney failure, but with the right treatment and support, people with diabetes can lead healthy and active lives.

During Diabetes Week, healthcare professionals from the Council and the health service in Hounslow will be working together to provide information about how to prevent, manage and live with the condition. This includes the importance of early detection.

If you or someone you know is living with diabetes, take the time to learn more about the condition and the support and resources available to you.
